Barbara Barbosa Neves

BarbaraNeves_BarbaraBarbosa - PIC Barbosa Neves is a Research Associate and Associate Director of TAGlab, University of Toronto. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Lisbon. She continues to collaborate with the Centre for Public Administration & Policies and the eplanning lab, both at the University of Lisbon, as a Research Fellow. She was also a Research Fellow at NetLab (University of Toronto, 2008-2011) and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Oslo (IMK, 2009-2011). Dr. Neves is the secretary and treasurer of RC06. – Barbara’s research intersects the study of social capital, social networks, aging, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Her current projects examine the ways in which ICT can be adopted and used by institutionalized frail older adults to enhance social connectedness, active aging, and social inclusion. She is also analyzing social capital and civic engagement in a cohort study of Portuguese young people born in the 1990s. Her publications appear in Social Science Research, Young, International Review of Sociology, Sociology Compass, Sociological Research Online, Journal of Comparative Family Studies, International Journal of Community Informatics, and International Journal of Innovation and Regional Research. Web: www.bbneves.com.
